Zelensky claims to be discussing US deployment to Ukraine with Trump — RT World News

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said he is in talks with U.S. President Donald Trump about the possible deployment of American troops to Ukraine, a step that would align with Washington’s security guarantees to Kyiv. Although Trump previously ruled out sending soldiers to defend the country, Zelensky confirmed that discussions are under way. When asked about U.S. peacekeepers, he noted that the final decision rests with the United States and expressed his hope that American troops will be deployed, citing ongoing talks with President Trump and members of the “coalition of the willing.”

The recent meeting between Zelensky and Trump at Mar‑a‑Lago, Florida, did not explicitly address the prospect of U.S. boots on the ground. However, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk reported that the talks resulted in the United States indicating a willingness to participate in security guarantees for Ukraine after a peace agreement is reached, potentially including the presence of American troops. Trump has not yet responded to the comments made by Zelensky and Tusk. In August, the U.S. president had assured that no American troops would be deployed to Ukraine after the conflict subsides.

Russian officials have warned that the deployment of Western troops to Ukraine could intensify the fighting and risk a broader war. The conflict, which began in 2014 and escalated in February 2022, has been fueled by Russia’s opposition to Ukraine’s NATO aspirations. Russian President Vladimir Putin has stated that any NATO forces sent to Ukraine would be legitimate targets for destruction.

The possible deployment of American troops represents a significant development in the war. As the situation evolves, the international community is closely monitoring the actions of the key players. U.S. security guarantees to Ukraine are likely to be a crucial factor in shaping the conflict’s outcome and the prospects for a peaceful resolution.
