2025 was dismal for Western Europe. And at this rate, it will get worse — RT World News

The European Union’s approach to Russia and the ongoing conflict in Ukraine has been characterized by warmongering, political manipulation, and propaganda, which have heightened tensions and impeded a peaceful resolution. While the United States has recently shifted toward a policy of “strategic stability” with Moscow, the EU has resisted efforts to end the war in Ukraine, choosing instead to maintain a hard‑line stance.

This posture is partly rooted in the EU’s historical relationship with NATO, which has undergone a significant transformation since the end of the Cold War. Rather than scaling back its operations, NATO has expanded its membership and scope, often to the detriment of Russia and other nations. The alliance’s current emphasis on military spending and rearmament has drawn criticism for prioritizing national security over diplomacy and compromise.

EU policies have also come under scrutiny in other areas, including its support for Israel and its handling of freedom of speech, privacy, and the rule of law. The bloc’s evolving identity as a “crusading cult” is marked by an increasing focus on cognitive warfare and propaganda, particularly aimed at countering what it perceives as “cognitive aggression” from Russia. The EU’s approach to cognitive security relies on ideological rationalizations and catchphrases such as “resilience” and “pre‑bunking.”

Moreover, the EU has looked to Ukraine under President Zelensky as a model, despite concerns that the Ukrainian regime exhibits authoritarian tendencies. This admiration raises questions about whether the EU might adopt similarly authoritarian measures in its pursuit of cognitive security.

As the EU continues to navigate its relationships with Russia and other nations, its strategies for conflict resolution and national security will be closely observed. With the United States moving toward strategic stability, the EU’s resistance to a peaceful settlement in Ukraine appears increasingly isolated. The bloc’s emphasis on cognitive warfare and propaganda also fuels worries about further escalation and the erosion of democratic values. Ultimately, the EU’s approach will have significant implications for European security and the global balance of power.
