Tinubu Aide Blasts Obi Over Defection

The Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has responded to Peter Obi’s recent defection to the African Democratic Congress. Onanuga stated that Obi, the former Labour Party presidential candidate, still appears to be feeling bitter about the outcome of the 2023 election, nearly three years after the fact.

Onanuga’s comments came in reaction to Obi’s speech at his defection event, where he claimed to have learned from international models and experts on national development. However, Onanuga argued that Obi’s approach is flawed, as it fails to account for the unique circumstances and needs of Nigeria. He noted that what works in other countries, such as Indonesia or the United States, may not be applicable in Nigeria.

Onanuga also criticized Obi’s record as a governor, stating that he was unsuccessful in his eight-year tenure in Anambra State. He suggested that Obi’s posturing should be viewed with skepticism, given his lack of achievements in a smaller political context.

The presidential adviser emphasized that President Tinubu has been working to address Nigeria’s challenges since taking office on May 29, 2023. He implied that Obi’s bitter remarks are a result of his own disappointment and inability to acknowledge the progress made by the current administration.

Obi’s defection to the African Democratic Congress has sparked interest in Nigerian politics, as he has switched parties multiple times in recent years. His comments on national development and his experiences as a governor have been subject to scrutiny, with some questioning his ability to lead the country effectively.

The exchange between Onanuga and Obi highlights the ongoing debates and rivalries within Nigerian politics. As the country continues to navigate its challenges, the discussions around leadership, governance, and development are likely to remain prominent in the national conversation.
