The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has ratified the 2026 appropriation bill, amounting to ₦1.39 trillion. The bill was presented after Dr. Itorobong Etim, Chair of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, submitted a report outlining its key components. It allocates ₦354.87 billion for current expenditure and ₦1.035 trillion for capital projects.
Governor Umo Eno initially presented the budgetary framework to the House on 25 November 2025 for assessment. The Assembly then formed a Committee of Supply to scrutinize the bill, which passed its third reading before approval. According to Dr. Etim, the committee adopted a collaborative legislative process, inviting government agencies, NGOs, and other relevant entities to a public hearing on the budget.
Dubbed “The People’s Budget of Expansion and Growth,” the appropriation bill was ratified after thorough deliberation by the Committee of Supply. Speaker Udeme Otong praised lawmakers for their commitment and synergy, which enabled the swift passage of the budget. He also acknowledged the administration, Assembly personnel, and other stakeholders for their support and contributions to the legislative process.
The ratified budget’s significant allocation to capital projects is expected to drive economic growth and development in the state. The House has instructed the Clerk to forward its resolution to Governor Umo Eno for ratification. The Assembly adjourned its session and will reconvene on 13 January 2026. The passage of the 2026 appropriation bill marks a major milestone in the state’s budgetary process, and its implementation will be closely watched by residents and stakeholders for its impact on Akwa Ibom’s growth and expansion.
