The All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Dogon Ruwa district of Kaltungo Local Government Area, Gombe State, has gained a significant boost with the defection of no fewer than 5,000 members less than a week before the governorship and State House of Assembly elections. This influx follows the departure of Muhammad Isa and his followers from the African Democratic Congress. Isa previously contested the Kaltungo/Shongom Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives during the recent presidential and National Assembly elections.
On Saturday, the defectors were received in Dogon Ruwa by Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s representative, the Secretary to the Gombe State Government, Professor Ibrahim Njodi. The governor urged the locals to maintain their support for the APC by voting for the incumbent administration, emphasizing that “we have performed credibly well in the provision of social, economic, and infrastructural development in the last three and a half years.” He called for continuity to consolidate the dividends of democracy.
Speaking earlier, chief defector Muhammad Isa explained that his decision to join the APC, along with his supporters, was driven by Governor Yahaya’s political charisma and administrative dexterity. Additionally, Yerima Gaule, the member representing Kaltungo East in the State House of Assembly, assured Governor Yahaya of a resounding victory for the party.
