Police recruitment free - PSC warns against extortion

The Police Service Commission of Nigeria has warned cyber cafés and recruitment agents against extorting money from individuals seeking to join the Nigeria Police Force. This caution follows reports that some applicants were being charged exorbitant fees—often N15,000 or more—under false pretenses. According to the Commission’s spokesperson, Mr. Torty Njoku, these claims of fee collection are entirely false and deceptive.

The PSC has received complaints about unscrupulous elements preying on unsuspecting applicants, demanding money in exchange for supposed assistance with the police recruitment process. The Commission emphasizes that recruitment into the Nigeria Police Force is completely free of charge, with no fees required at any stage of the application process.

To avoid falling victim to such scams, the PSC advises prospective candidates to submit their applications personally through the official recruitment portal at www.npfapplication.psc.gov.ng, without involving third‑party agents. Individuals found engaging in fraudulent recruitment practices will face prosecution in accordance with the law.

Applicants who encounter any requests for payment are encouraged to report the incidents to the nearest police station or directly to the PSC via 07054992071, using SMS or WhatsApp. The Police Service Commission reassures Nigerians of its commitment to a merit‑based, accessible recruitment process free from corruption and extortion.

By taking a firm stance against fraudulent activities, the Commission aims to ensure that the recruitment process remains transparent and fair for all applicants. As the Nigeria Police Force continues to seek new recruits, the PSC’s efforts to combat extortion and corruption are a crucial step toward maintaining the integrity of the recruitment process. The official recruitment portal provides a secure and free platform for applicants, and the Commission encourages all eligible individuals to apply while remaining vigilant against potential scams.
