The Social Democratic Party governorship candidate in Delta State, Chief Kenneth Gbagi, has pledged to revive the moribund Asaba Textile Mill if he wins the Saturday election. Speaking at a rally in Asaba attended by pastors and women’s groups, Gbagi said, “Within one year of taking office we will restore the Asaba Textile Mill, produce all kinds of clothing materials, and export them to other countries.” He added that the mill’s revival would create jobs for youths and boost Asaba’s economy, increasing the state’s internally generated revenue.

Gbagi also outlined broader plans for the state. He announced that part of Isoko land would be converted into a rice‑producing area and that all schools in Delta—from primary to university level—would become tuition‑free. He lamented the current state of public schools as “very pathetic” and promised a comprehensive overhaul of the education system. Moreover, he vowed not to allow government officials’ children to study abroad and pledged to develop hospitals so that residents would no longer need to seek medical treatment outside the state.

In addition, Gbagi said that, starting 1 June 2023, every Delta youth would receive N30,000 monthly. He pledged to computerize all youths, creating a statewide database, and warned them not to be misled by empty promises, insisting that he has the solutions to Delta’s challenges. Emphasizing equality, he declared, “When I take over and do what they have done, God will disgrace me. This election is not about me, Kenneth Gbagi; it is about the welfare of the people of Delta State. We must rescue Delta State and make it the envy of others.”
