Troops of Sector 1 Operation Fansan Yamma (OPFY) have achieved another operational success in the Kajuru/Kujama area of Kaduna State, Nigeria, rescuing six kidnapped victims. According to Lt‑Col. Shuaib Umar, acting Deputy Director and Army Public Relations Officer for the 1st Division of the Nigerian Army, the rescue took place on Monday as part of a coordinated series of operations across multiple axes in the Chikun, Kajuru, Kachia, and Kagarko Local Government Areas. These operations were designed to restrict the movement of violent extremists within the Joint Operations Area (JOA) and the broader Sector 1 OPFY JOA.
Following a distress alert about extremist activity around the Kasso adjoining hills, troops from Sub‑Sector 5 quickly mobilized to the location. Upon arrival they engaged the criminals with effective suppressive fire, forcing them to flee into the surrounding forest. The troops then exploited the situation, leading to the successful rescue of six kidnapped victims. The rescued individuals were handed over to representatives of the Kajuru Local Government Area and the Kajuru Emirate Council for reunification with their families.
The General Officer Commanding/Commander of Sector 1 Operation Fansan Yamma, Maj‑Gen. Abubakar Wase, commended the troops for their efforts and instructed them to remain on maximum alert, sustaining an aggressive tempo to deny criminal elements freedom of action within the Joint Operations Area. This rescue operation is part of the Nigerian Army’s ongoing campaign to combat insecurity and violent extremism in the region. Launched to address security challenges in Kaduna State and surrounding areas, Operation Fansan Yamma has disrupted criminal activities and restored relative peace to affected communities.
