Senator Ireti Kingibe, who represents the Federal Capital Territory, has voiced confidence in her bid for re‑election, saying she is undaunted by Minister of the FCT Nyesom Wike as the 2027 general elections approach. She stressed that the FCT’s voting pattern has traditionally been independent, with residents choosing their leaders without outside influence.
Speaking on Channels Television’s *Politics Today*, Kingibe asserted that no individual—Wike included—controls electoral outcomes in the territory. She pointed out that the people of the FCT have consistently demonstrated the ability to make autonomous decisions at the polls, free from external pressure.
Kingibe also explained her move to the African Democratic Congress, describing it as a necessary platform for opposition candidates. She noted that many former Labour Party members, including those seeking re‑election and council seats, have made the same switch.
While downplaying Wike’s role in the upcoming elections, Kingibe suggested the minister should concentrate on the ongoing local government elections and his other responsibilities.
