Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun emphasized that Nigeria’s diversity is a source of strength and unity, not division, during the Special Jumat service marking the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day at the Central Mosque in Abeokuta. Represented by his deputy, Noimot Salako‑Oyedele, the governor noted that the nation’s current security challenges underscore the need for sacrifice, vigilance, and collective effort to maintain peace. He urged citizens to reject violence, embrace dialogue, and support lawful initiatives that secure the country.
Governor Abiodun also honored the fallen heroes who served Nigeria without regard to tribe, religion, or region, stressing that their sacrifices continue to unite the nation. His administration remains committed to supporting the welfare and dignity of the families of these heroes.
The Armed Forces Remembrance Day ceremony, an annual event that commemorates the ultimate sacrifice of armed‑force members, was attended by numerous dignitaries, including the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo. The Alake called for collective action to address Nigeria’s security challenges. In his sermon, the Mufasi of Egbaland, Alhaji Abdulai Odaranile, highlighted that a nation lacking security is vulnerable to slavery, praised those who gave their lives in defense of the country, and urged citizens to pray for the families of the deceased.
Governor Abiodun also praised President Bola Tinubu’s leadership and commitment to national unity and security, noting deliberate efforts to strengthen the armed forces and improve the welfare of security personnel. The celebration reinforced the importance of national unity and security as Nigeria continues to confront various security challenges, and it underscored the Ogun State government’s dedication to supporting the families of fallen heroes while urging the nation’s leadership to persist in promoting unity and safety.
