Yoruba group canvasses support for Gombe gov’s re-election

A group operating under the aegis of the Yoruba Movement has launched a re‑election campaign for Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, promising residents greater rewards and a prosperous future. The campaign is being led by Dr. Larry Daniel‑Terry, Executive Chairman of the Gombe State Sports Commission. Daniel‑Terry, a Yoruba man born in Gombe, has visited the Gombe State Oba of Yoruba, women’s groups and several churches to canvass support for the continuity of Governor Yahaya’s administration in the upcoming election.

The churches visited include Calvary Baptist Church in Buba Shongo, First Baptist Church in Jekada Fari, Emmanuel Baptist Church in Nasarawa, and Cherubim and Seraphim Movement Church No. 1 in Herwagana, all located in Gombe. Congregants thanked the team leader for his engagement at this critical political moment and voiced a range of concerns: discrimination, difficulty obtaining indigene letters, lack of school admissions for their children, and insufficient employment opportunities for educated youths. They called for greater dividends of democracy from the Yahaya‑led administration.

Daniel‑Terry emphasized that the tour’s purpose was to mobilise the entire Yoruba community to vote for Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya in the Saturday general election, citing the governor’s credibility and his inclusive approach. He described Yahaya as a man of his word, noting the governor’s appointments of non‑indigenes and, specifically, members of the Yoruba community, and assured that the administration is prepared to do more.

In separate remarks, the governor’s special adviser, who also serves as the State APC Yoruba Women Leader, Bintu Ibrahim, and the State APC Yoruba Youth Leader, Tajudeen Sadiq, expressed satisfaction with the governor’s leadership style and pledged inclusion of youths and women in enjoying the full benefits of democracy.

Earlier, the Oba of Yoruba, Alhaji Abdulwasiu Jimoh‑Oluwanishola, offered royal blessings and prayers for the success of the APC at his Kumbiya Kumbiya palace, before meeting with his people and several women’s groups.
