Nollywood film surpasses N2 billion in sales

Nigerian filmmaker Funke Akindele has achieved a significant milestone with her newly released movie, ‘Behind the Scene’, which has become the first Nollywood film to gross over N2 billion in cinema sales. According to FilmOne, a leading Nigerian film distributor, the movie earned N2,103,039,706 in just one month of its release. This achievement solidifies Funke Akindele’s position as a prominent figure in the African film industry.

Behind the Scene’s commercial success has catapulted Funke Akindele to the top spot as Africa’s most commercially successful filmmaker. She has also become the highest-grossing producer, writer, and director in West Africa’s history. Additionally, she is the first filmmaker to rank number one at the African box office for three consecutive years.

Funke Akindele expressed her gratitude to her fans and God in a video posted on her Instagram page, stating that the achievement would not have been possible without their support. She said, “We have every reason to thank God. 2 billion and counting is not a joke… Joy overflows, my heart is full of gratitude to God and my amazing fans.”

The Nigerian film industry, also known as Nollywood, has experienced significant growth in recent years, with many of its productions gaining international recognition.
