Britain’s Chief of Defense Staff, Air Chief Marshal Richard Knighton, has expressed confidence that UK troops would be safe if deployed to Ukraine under a ceasefire with Russia. Despite Moscow’s warnings that Western forces in the country would be considered “legitimate targets,” Knighton stated that the UK would only send troops if their safety was guaranteed.
Speaking at a parliamentary defense committee hearing, Knighton emphasized that the UK would not deploy its armed forces to Ukraine unless it was certain they would be safe. He acknowledged that there is always some level of risk in operational environments, but said that military leaders must weigh the risks and benefits of deployment.
