Police in Katsina State, Nigeria, have intercepted a large quantity of explosive materials during a routine security operation, highlighting the ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and insecurity in the region. According to DSP Abubakar Aliyu, the police spokesperson, the search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 6,975 pieces of detonators, which were concealed in the vehicle. During questioning, Musa admitted to obtaining the explosives from a suspect named Najib, who is currently at large. The investigation also led to the arrest of two additional suspects, Ibrahim Murtala and Sulaiman Muhammad, who were found to be in possession of 7,500 electric detonators and 30.5 bags of gelatine weighing 2,273.65kg.
The suspects have confessed to the crime and will be charged in court once investigations are concluded. The police are still searching for the suspect who escaped and are working to apprehend him. The operation was part of the Inspector-General of Police’s directive to increase vigilance and intelligence-led patrols, especially on major highways.
