Ahead of the March 11, 2023 state House of Assembly and governorship elections across the country, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the South‑West geopolitical zone has appealed to voters to support the party’s candidates. In the South‑West, only Lagos, Ogun and Oyo states will hold both governorship and House of Assembly elections, while Osun, Ondo and Ekiti will vote only for their House of Assembly members.
The APC’s National Vice Chairman for the South‑West, Mr. Isaac Kekemeke, issued the appeal in a statement released on Monday and made available to our correspondent in Akure, the capital of Ondo State. He thanked Nigerians from all zones for supporting President‑elect Asiwaju Bola Tinubu in the presidential election and urged the people of the South‑West to extend that same support to the party’s candidates in the upcoming governorship and assembly polls.
Kekemeke emphasized that the region would fully benefit from President‑elect Tinubu’s next administration if voters elect APC governors and state lawmakers in their respective states. He expressed confidence in the president‑elect’s ability and willingness to change the national narrative and alleviate the current hardships caused by naira scarcity.
The statement also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission to ensure a level playing field for all candidates in the governorship and state House of Assembly elections, as was done during the February 25 presidential election. Kekemeke expressed optimism that the APC would emerge victorious in Saturday’s polls and urged party members to sustain momentum, canvass for votes from all eligible voters, and guarantee the party’s success in the governorship and House of Assembly elections.
