A Nigerian special effects artist, James Akaie, has passed away due to injuries sustained in an explosion at a movie location in Abeokuta, Ogun State. The incident occurred during a filming session when an unauthorized pyrotechnic experiment involving a gas cylinder went awry.
According to a statement released by movie director and producer James Abinibi on the RockBottom Flix Instagram page, the explosion happened in a designated effects preparation area outside the film set. Akaie was experimenting with the pyrotechnic stimulation alongside his two assistants when the incident occurred. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. His assistants, who sustained fire burn injuries, were taken to a specialist hospital, where they received immediate medical attention and are currently stable as they continue to receive treatment.
