Umuahia Landlords Given 4 Weeks to Renovate Dirty Buildings

The Abia State government has issued a four-week ultimatum to landlords in Umuahia to renovate their buildings or face consequences. According to the government, many buildings in the city are in a state of disrepair, contributing to the decline of its aesthetic appeal. The State government has expressed concern that the poor condition of these buildings undermines its efforts to beautify the city.

Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, made this announcement on Monday while briefing journalists on the outcome of the executive council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti. He noted that many landlords have neglected to maintain or renovate their properties for years, resulting in a negative impact on the city’s appearance. The government has emphasized that landlords who fail to comply with this directive will face consequences.

In addition to addressing the issue of dilapidated buildings, the Abia State government has also announced plans to demolish shanties and other illegal structures in Umuahia. The Umuahia Capital Development Authority (UCDA) will be responsible for carrying out this exercise in the coming days.

The government’s efforts to improve the city’s infrastructure and aesthetic appeal are part of a broader initiative to enhance the overall quality of life for residents. In a related development, the Abia State government has employed 649 medical personnel to work in the state’s healthcare system. This includes 432 nurses and a neurosurgeon, aimed at strengthening the healthcare sector.

The employment of new medical personnel is a significant step towards addressing the healthcare needs of the state’s population. The government’s initiatives to beautify the city and improve healthcare services demonstrate its commitment to providing a better living environment for residents. With the ultimatum issued to landlords and plans to demolish illegal structures, the government is taking concrete steps to address the challenges facing the city. The next few weeks will be crucial in determining the effectiveness of these measures and the willingness of landlords to comply with the government’s directives.
