Macron seeks emergency G7 meeting amid US row

US President Donald Trump has shared a private message allegedly from French President Emmanuel Macron on his Truth Social account. The message expresses Macron’s confusion over US objectives regarding Greenland and proposes hosting an emergency G7 meeting in Paris, with participation from Ukraine, Denmark, Syria, and Russia. Macron also invites Trump to a dinner meeting in Paris.

This development follows a public dispute between Trump and Macron over the US-proposed ‘Gaza Board of Peace’. France declined to join the panel, citing concerns that its charter exceeds the scope of the peace plan endorsed by the United Nations. Trump responded by saying Macron’s participation is not wanted due to his upcoming term ending and suggested imposing trade tariffs to coerce France into joining.

The Gaza Board of Peace, chaired by Trump, aims to oversee the transition in the war-torn Palestinian enclave. The board is set to be formally launched at the World Economic Forum in Davos, where the ongoing dispute between the US and Western European nations over Trump’s push to acquire Greenland from Denmark is expected to dominate discussions. Trump has announced fresh tariffs on eight European NATO countries, suggesting they should focus more on the Ukraine conflict.

The proposed G7 meeting in Paris would address the escalating tensions between the US and its European allies. Macron’s invitation to Trump and the proposed meeting participants, including Ukraine, Denmark, Syria, and Russia, indicates a desire to resolve the current diplomatic stalemate. The situation remains fluid, with the World Economic Forum in Davos likely to be a pivotal moment in the ongoing dispute.

As the international community watches the developments unfold, the significance of the US-France diplomatic rift and its potential impact on global relations cannot be overstated. The outcome of the proposed G7 meeting and the launch of the Gaza Board of Peace will be closely monitored, with potential repercussions for international cooperation and global stability. With the World Economic Forum in Davos approaching, the situation is likely to continue evolving, with new developments emerging in the coming days.
