Kano Lawmakers Defect from NNPP to Support Governor

In a significant development, 22 members of the Kano State House of Assembly, including the Speaker, Jibril Ismail Falgore, and his Deputy, Muhammad Butu-Butu, have resigned from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP). The lawmakers also declared their support for Governor Abba Yusuf, who had earlier resigned from the NNPP. This move comes as a major shift in the state’s political landscape.

According to a statement by the Press Secretary of the Kano State House of Assembly, Kamaludden Shawai, the defectors include key figures such as the Majority Leader, Lawan Hussain, and other prominent lawmakers representing various constituencies. The list of defectors, which has been verified and authenticated by the assembly, includes members from constituencies like Ajingi, Albasu, and Bagwai/Shanono, among others.

The announcement was made to inform the public and clarify the political position of the affected lawmakers following the governor’s resignation from the NNPP. The Kano State House of Assembly has confirmed the defection, which involves a total of 22 members. The development is seen as a significant realignment of political forces in the state, with potential implications for the balance of power in the assembly.

The defection of the lawmakers is likely to have significant consequences for the political dynamics in Kano State. With the governor and a substantial number of lawmakers now outside the NNPP, the state’s political landscape is set for a major overhaul. The move may also have implications for the opposition parties in the state, as they seek to capitalize on the situation.

As the situation continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how the NNPP will respond to the mass defection of its members. The party may face significant challenges in maintaining its influence in the state, given the loss of key figures and the potential shift in the balance of power. Meanwhile, Governor Abba Yusuf and the defected lawmakers are likely to face new challenges and opportunities as they navigate their new political reality.
