Bandits neutralised in Gombe State shootout

A recent security operation in Gombe State, Nigeria, has resulted in the neutralization of three bandits and the rescue of three victims. According to the Gombe State Police Command, the operation took place in Lambo village, Pindiga District, Akko Local Government Area.

The police received a report of an attack by suspected armed bandits in Rahama, Lambo, and Garin Galadima villages. On Saturday, at 2 pm, the bandits invaded Rahama Village, killing a 70-year-old man, Tela Ahmadu, and abducting his two sons. Later, at 3:40 pm, the same group stormed Lambo Village, abducting three more individuals: Babayo Garba, Malam Abba Musa, and 20-year-old Baayo Bayi.

In response to the distress call, police tactical teams, in collaboration with hunters and vigilante groups, engaged the bandits in a gun duel. Unfortunately, Baayo Bayi was caught in the crossfire and later confirmed dead. However, Babayo Garba and Malam Abba Musa were successfully rescued. Three bandits were neutralized, while others escaped into the forest with suspected gunshot injuries.

The police recovered several items, including two AK-47 rifles, 68 rounds of live ammunition, four magazines, and four operational motorcycles. The bodies of the three neutralized bandits were also recovered. The rescued victims were taken to a hospital for medical examination. Efforts are ongoing to rescue the two remaining victims from Rahama Village and to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

The Gombe State Police Command has intensified its efforts to combat banditry in the region. The operation is part of the Command’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of citizens in the state. The police are working closely with local communities and other stakeholders to prevent such incidents and bring perpetrators to justice. The incident highlights the ongoing security challenges in the region and the need for continued collaboration between security agencies and local communities to address these issues.
