APC Suspends Kebbi Official Over Violence Allegations

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kebbi State has taken disciplinary action against one of its senior members, Kabiru Labbo Jega, suspending him from the party due to allegations of inciting violence and unrest in Jega town. This decision, as outlined in a letter dated January 26, was signed by Abubakar Bello Matawalle Bunza, the party’s Zonal Vice Chairman for Kebbi Central.

The suspension comes on the heels of another disciplinary action taken by the party just a month prior, in which the Chairman of Birnin Kebbi Local Government and ALGON chairman, Dahiru Nayaya Ambursa, was also suspended. Jega, who serves as the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Community and Rural Development, has been accused of actions that could disrupt the peace and unity within the party in his constituency. Specifically, the allegations against him include instigating violence among APC members, which has led to tension and confusion in Jega.

Following a thorough review of these allegations, the APC’s executive committee concluded that Jega’s conduct posed a significant threat to the internal cohesion and discipline within the party. As a result, the party has suspended Jega from membership and all party activities, effective immediately. The letter explicitly warns Jega against engaging in any APC-related activities during his suspension period, noting that any violation of this directive could lead to stiffer disciplinary measures, including possible expulsion from the party.

This move by the APC in Kebbi State underscores the party’s commitment to maintaining discipline and unity among its members, especially in the face of internal conflicts that could undermine its stability and effectiveness. The suspension of high-ranking members like Jega and Ambursa indicates that the party is taking a firm stance against any behavior that could compromise its internal harmony and reputation.

The APC’s actions in Kebbi State are being closely watched, as they reflect the broader challenges political parties in Nigeria face in balancing internal dynamics with the need for a unified front. The party’s ability to address these challenges will be crucial in maintaining the trust and support of its members and the electorate at large. As the political landscape continues to evolve, the APC’s handling of such disciplinary matters will be significant in shaping its future prospects and influence within Nigerian politics.
