FAAN Assures Seamless Travel At Lagos Airport Despite Rehab Works

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has assured passengers of a seamless travel experience at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos, despite ongoing rehabilitation works. According to the Managing Director of FAAN, Mrs Olubunmi Kuku, the authority is taking steps to ensure that the rehabilitation process does not disrupt airport operations.

During an inspection of the new temporary departure terminal, Kuku revealed that the 8,000-square-metre facility is over 90 per cent complete and will soon begin operations. The temporary terminal is part of the phased rehabilitation and expansion project aimed at improving safety, efficiency, and passenger comfort at the airport. The project is also expected to boost Nigeria’s aviation profile, making the country’s airports more competitive globally.

The temporary departure terminal will initially serve five to six airlines and handle up to 1,500 passengers at peak periods. The facility will provide full check-in, security screening, and boarding services, ensuring that passengers experience minimal disruption during the rehabilitation process. The phased approach to the project is designed to minimize the impact on airport operations, allowing FAAN to balance the need for upgrades with the need to maintain service continuity.

The rehabilitation of the Murtala Mohammed International Airport is a critical infrastructure project, given the airport’s status as a major hub for air travel in West Africa. The project is expected to improve the overall travel experience for passengers, while also enhancing the airport’s capacity to handle increasing passenger traffic. With the temporary terminal set to begin operations soon, FAAN is on track to deliver a revamped airport that meets international standards for safety, efficiency, and passenger comfort. As the project progresses, passengers can expect a more efficient and comfortable travel experience, which will ultimately contribute to the growth and development of Nigeria’s aviation sector.
