Angela Okorie Remains in Prison Despite Bail, Out Monday

Nigerian actress and singer Angela Okorie remains in Suleja prison custody despite a Federal High Court in Abuja granting her bail, a situation that has drawn public attention. The court on Friday approved bail set at N5 million with one surety of equal value, who must be a level 13 civil servant. Her legal team confirmed all conditions were satisfied following interventions by activists, including Omoyele Sowore, Mama Pee, actor Stanley Ontop, and Randy Peter.

However, Okorie was not released immediately. Actor Stanley Ontop explained in an Instagram post that the bail processing was completed late on Friday, after prison operating hours. “Angela Okorie Bail application has been processed, but after we had finished the processing, time has gone. So she will be out from Suleja prison by Monday. We have met all her bail conditions,” he stated, indicating her release is scheduled for the start of the work week.

The discrepancy between the court order and her continued detention sparked discussions on social media platforms. Okorie, known for her roles in Nollywood films and music, was reportedly arrested earlier, though specific charges were not detailed in the initial reports. Her case highlights procedural timelines in Nigeria’s criminal justice system, where post-bail processing delays can extend custody despite judicial approval.

As of now, all financial and surety requirements for her N5 million bail have been fulfilled. The focus remains on the Monday release timeline provided by her representatives. The development continues to be monitored by her supporters and those following corrections procedure in the Federal Capital Territory.
