Serie A’s top scorer, Victor Osimhen, revealed on Monday that he dreams of playing in the English Premier League. The 24‑year‑old Nigerian striker was in Rome to receive the Foreign Athlete of the Year award from the Foreign Press Association and said he wants to deliver a league title to Napoli fans while also looking ahead to a future in England. “A lot of people worldwide consider the Premier League the best and strongest league,” he said. “I’m already in one of the best leagues in the world, the Italian Serie A. Of course I’m working hard to achieve my dream of playing in the Premier League someday, but it’s a process and I just want to keep this momentum.”

Osimhen joined Napoli in 2020 from Lille and has already scored 19 league goals this season as the club builds a 15‑point lead in the race for their first title since the Diego Maradona era. “As a football player, when you arrive in Napoli you fall even more in love with the game, because the city lives and breathes football and supports the team,” he explained. “Being able to give the fans something to remember is a big mission for me.”

He paid tribute to Argentina legend Diego Maradona, who led Napoli to their only two titles in 1987 and 1990. “When you talk about Napoli, the first player who comes to fans’ minds is Maradona. Even if we win the Scudetto, we cannot compare with what Maradona did for this club—he’s more than a legend,” Osimhen said. “We’ve been doing well this season, but I don’t consider myself an icon until we achieve the objective.”

When asked about racism in stadiums, Osimhen called it a “bad disease.” “I’ve been racially abused twice and it’s a bad feeling,” he added.
