Rivers State Declares Full Support for Tinubu’s 2027 Reelection Bid
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared Rivers State fully committed to the reelection of President Bola Tinubu in 2027. Wike made the statement on Saturday during the inauguration of the Rivers Renewed Hope Ambassadors’ Secretariat in Port Harcourt.
The newly opened headquarters includes a dedicated radio station, Majority FM 89.5, a situation room, and office facilities for the pro-government movement. Wike stressed that the infrastructural investment signifies the state’s unwavering stance. “Rivers is totally for Tinubu,” he stated, adding that the state is “battle ready” for the 2027 campaign.
The Minister highlighted extensive mobilisation efforts, noting that coordinators are now active in all 23 Local Government Areas. He framed this as a grassroots-driven initiative, independent of the state governor’s involvement. “We have senators, national and state assembly members, council chairmen, and party chairmen… We have mobilised ourselves to make a commitment,” Wike said, asserting the support is genuine and not merely “lip service.”
Wike referenced the 2023 presidential election, claiming Rivers voters supported Tinubu without pressure and are now enjoying the benefits. He argued this creates an obligation to continue supporting the President’s second-term bid. He directed the movement’s coordinator, Ambassador Desmond Akawor, to expand the structure to ward and unit levels, emphasising the need to “talk to our people to continue to support Mr President.”
Ambassador Akawor credited Wike’s leadership for the movement’s progress and announced the appointment of leaders for all 23 local government areas. The inauguration of the secretariat and its accompanying vehicles is described as the first of its kind in the South-South geopolitical zone.
The declaration represents a significant political positioning by a key opposition stronghold, suggesting a consolidated effort to secure a decisive victory for President Tinubu in a state that was a battleground in the last election cycle. The next phase involves deepening the campaign structure to the most local levels ahead of the 2027 polls.
