Delta North APC Screening Panel for Fair State Chairman

The Delta North chapter of Nigeria’s All Progressives Congress (APC) has established a seven-member screening committee to oversee the selection of its next state chairman, a process aimed at ensuring transparency and fairness ahead of the party’s upcoming state congresses.

The decision emerged from a pivotal stakeholders’ meeting of the Delta North APC Coalition for Equity. Concurrently, the coalition’s chairman, Barr. Alex Ikpeazu, has temporarily stepped down from his leadership role after declaring his intention to contest the state chairmanship for the Delta North (Ika Federal Constituency) position. This move is intended to prevent any perceived conflict of interest and maintain a level playing field for all aspirants from the region.

In the interim, the coalition has appointed Iyke Mordi as Acting Chairman to coordinate its affairs until the conclusion of the various ward and local government congresses.

According to Hon. Kemmer Emina, Secretary-General of the coalition, Ikpeazu’s decision to recuse himself underscores a commitment to democratic principles and the collective interest of Delta North. “In view of this development, it became necessary and appropriate for Ikpeazu to step aside to guarantee a level playing field for all aspirants,” Emina stated.

The newly formed Screening Committee is structured to include one nominee from each of the contesting aspirants. Its core mandate is to vet all interested candidates and recommend the most suitable, credible, and widely accepted individual to become Delta North’s preferred choice for state chairman.

Emina emphasized that the coalition remains dedicated to the ideals of equity, unity, and inclusive participation within the APC. He reaffirmed the group’s determination to ensure Delta North retains a strong and strategic role in the party’s leadership and growth across Delta State.

The coalition also extended best wishes to all Delta North aspirants and urged party members, particularly long-standing APC faithful, to remain united, peaceful, and focused on the party’s progress as the congress period approaches.

This internal coordination is significant as the APC prepares for its state congresses, where key leadership positions, including the state chairman, will be filled. The actions of the Delta North coalition are being closely observed as a test of the party’s ability to manage internal contests with integrity amid heightened political activities in Delta State.
