Bluesky’s New Drafts Feature Lets You Save Posts for Later

Bluesky has officially introduced a drafts function, enabling users to save unfinished posts for later completion. The feature, rolled out as part of the platform’s v1.116 update starting Monday, addresses a long-standing user request and brings the decentralized social network closer to feature parity with established competitors.

The update allows users to save a post in progress by selecting “Cancel” during composition, at which point a pop-up offers the option to save it as a draft. An alternative method is via a new “Drafts” button located beside the “Post” button in the composition window. Tapping this button also provides the option to save the current post before accessing the drafts library. Users must ensure their mobile app is updated to the latest version to access this functionality.

To retrieve saved drafts, users open the composition screen and tap the “Drafts” button. This displays a list of stored posts, which can be selected to resume editing or deleted. The addition follows repeated community calls for such a tool, especially as rivals like X (formerly Twitter) and Meta’s Threads have long offered draft-saving capabilities.

Bluesky had previously acknowledged the absence of basic features, including drafts, in a January blog post outlining its 2025 development roadmap. That post also highlighted plans for improved video upload speeds, support for longer clips, and the ability to attach more than four images per post. While the implementation of core functionalities has progressed slower than some users might prefer, the move signals the platform’s ongoing commitment to enhancing user experience.

Despite the delayed rollout of certain features, Bluesky’s growth has remained robust. The platform’s 2025 Transparency Report revealed its user base nearly doubled over the past year, rising from 25 million to 41 million registered accounts. This trend suggests that while feature development pace is a point of discussion, it has not impeded the platform’s expansion.

The drafts feature is now available to all users via the latest app update. Its introduction is a tangible step in Bluesky’s stated objective to refine essential tools, potentially improving content creation workflows and user retention as the service continues to scale globally.
