The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) has announced the shortlist for its January 2024 Player and Manager of the Month awards, highlighting standout contributions from across the nation’s top-tier women’s clubs.

Five players have been nominated for the Player of the Month honour. The list includes Abasiofon Uwah and Kareem Ramatalahi of Rivers Angels, Ismail Zainab from Ekiti Queens, Akekoromowei Janet of Bayelsa Queens, and Atume Doosur representing Edo Queens. Each nominee delivered exceptional performances for their respective teams throughout the month under review, driving their clubs’ campaigns in the league.

Concurrently, four coaches are in contention for the Manager of the Month award. The nominees are Danjuma Christopher of Nasarawa Amazons, Tosan Blankson (Rivers Angels), Whyte Ogbonda (Bayelsa Queens), and Moses Adaku (Edo Queens). Their strategic leadership and tactical guidance were instrumental in their teams’ results during the January fixtures.

The ultimate winners for both categories will be determined solely by public votes, engaging fans nationwide in celebrating talent within the women’s football ecosystem. This democratic voting process underscores the NWFL’s commitment to connecting stars with their supporter base.

These monthly awards form part of the league’s broader initiative to incentivise excellence and increase the profile of women’s club football in Nigeria. Last month’s accolades were claimed by Robo Queens’ midfielder Rafiu Tosin as Player of the Month, while his coach, Emmanuel Osahon, was named Manager of the Month for December 2023.

The January nomination list continues a tradition of recognising consistent match-winning performances. As the season progresses, such accolades serve to spotlight the competitive depth across the NWFL, fostering greater media attention and fan engagement for the league. The winners will be confirmed following the fan voting period, further motivating players and coaches as the title race intensifies.
