Ex-International Nihat Kahveci Hails Trabzonspor’s Paul Onuachu as Aerial Threat in Super Lig
Former Turkish international Nihat Kahveci has identified Super Lig top scorer Paul Onuachu as the league’s most dominant aerial force, following the Nigerian striker’s latest performance for Trabzonspor.
Kahveci’s assessment came after Onuachu’s decisive contribution in Trabzonspor’s 3-2 victory over Fenerbahçe at Papara Park on Saturday. The 27-year-old scored his team’s second goal with a powerful header, successfully connecting with a cross from Mathias Fjørtoft Løvik.
Speaking on the Kontraspor YouTube channel, Kahveci emphasized the physical challenge Onuachu poses. “From that cross that was played, I don’t see any center-back who can stop Onuachu. Maybe there isn’t one in the world,” he stated, as reported by Turkish outlet T24.
Onuachu’s form this season has been exceptional. The former Southampton forward has scored 16 goals and provided one assist in 19 Super Lig appearances. His prolific strike rate has placed him at the summit of the league’s scoring charts, leading by one goal over Uzbekistan’s Eldor Shomurodov, despite having played two fewer matches.
The striker’s impact has been instrumental in Trabzonspor’s campaign. Since joining the club from Southampton in 2022, Onuachu has consistently demonstrated his value, with his physical presence and finishing ability making him a constant problem for opposition defences.
