Super Eagles in Jordan Four-Nation Invitational March

Nigeria’s national football team, the three-time African champions, will participate in a Four-Nation Invitational Tournament in Amman, Jordan, during the upcoming FIFA international window in March. The event, featuring Iran, Jordan, and Costa Rica, is scheduled to offer participating sides high-level competitive matches outside the usual qualification cycles.

According to a statement released on Friday by Ademola Olajire, Director of Communications for the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), the tournament aligns with the federation’s technical development objectives. “This tournament offers the Super Eagles quality opposition and valuable international experience,” the statement read. The federation emphasized that facing teams from diverse confederations—Asia (Iran), Asia (Jordan), and CONCACAF (Costa Rica)—will enhance the squad’s tactical adaptability and deepen playing options ahead of future major competitions.

The competition will commence on March 27, with Nigeria opening against Iran at the 17,000-capacity Amman International Stadium. On the same day, Jordan will play Costa Rica at the larger King Abdullah Sports City Stadium, which seats 62,000. The second round of matches on March 31 will see hosts Jordan face Nigeria at the Amman International Stadium, while Costa Rica takes on Iran at the King Abdullah Sports City venue. Organisers are expected to confirm the complete schedule, including specific kick-off times, shortly.

This gathering in Jordan provides a rare opportunity for the Super Eagles to engage in structured international fixtures during a window typically used for friendlies. For Nigeria, whose technical programme prioritises consistent high-level engagement, the tournament serves as a practical preparatory step. Matches against varied playing styles from different footballing regions are regarded as instrumental in assessing squad layers and refining strategies for upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and other targeted tournaments.

The event underscores a broader trend of nations seeking curated, multi-team gatherings to maximise development opportunities outside the congested official match calendar. For Nigeria, the Amman tournament represents a focused phase of preparation under the federation’s ongoing technical plan. The NFF confirmed the team’s full participation, with player mobilisation and coaching logistics to follow the official fixture release.
