The All Progressives Congress (APC) has extended the deadline for purchasing and submitting nomination forms for its forthcoming zonal congresses and national convention. The new window runs from March 12 to March 23, 2026, the party announced Tuesday.
Felix Morka, the APC’s National Publicity Secretary, confirmed the adjustment in a statement from Abuja. He emphasized that the revised schedule for form acquisition does not alter the previously fixed dates for the congresses themselves. The Zonal Congresses remain set for March 25, 2026, followed by the National Convention on March 26 and 27, 2026.
In a separate logistical change, the South-South Zonal Congress will now be held in Asaba, Delta State, instead of its originally planned location.
Morka stated that the party has formally notified the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of these schedule modifications, as mandated by electoral regulations. He called on all party members and stakeholders to update their plans accordingly.
The APC, as Nigeria’s ruling party, is conducting these internal elections ahead of the 2027 general elections. The zonal congresses are critical preliminary steps where delegates are selected to participate in the national convention, which will finalize the party’s leadership and set the stage for its electoral strategy. The extension provides an additional timeframe for prospective aspirants to complete their nomination procedures.
The maintenance of the actual congress and convention dates underscores the party’s intent to keep its broader electoral timeline on track. Stakeholders will be watching the preparations for these events closely, as they often indicate the party’s internal cohesion and readiness for the next political contest.
