Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, welcomed Ireti Kingibe, the second‑ever female senator‑elect from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). In a tweet, Obi congratulated “senator‑elect Mrs @ireti_kingibe, the second elected female senator for the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja,” noting that her victory aligns with the party’s commitment to women and youth. He added that he, the Labour Party, the OBIdient family, and his running mate Datti Baba‑Ahmed were gratified that she will represent the party in the FCT and expressed confidence in her “diligent service and contribution towards nation‑building.”

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) presented Certificates of Return to the newly elected senators on Tuesday at the National Collation Centre, also known as the International Conference Centre in Abuja. INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu handed the certificates to the winners of the senatorial elections held on 25 February. The electoral body had previously, on the preceding Wednesday, presented certificates to President‑elect Bola Tinubu and Vice President‑elect Kashim Shettima.
