Burna Boy Has Converted to Islam, Rahman Jago Confirms

Nigerian Grammy-winning artist Burna Boy has adopted Islam, according to a confirmation from his close associate Rahman Jago, ending weeks of public speculation following the singer’s own remarks about his spiritual journey.

The revelation follows a podcast interview a few weeks prior where Burna Boy, who was raised in a Christian household, stated he had embraced Islam “at some point” in his search for truth. His religious affiliation subsequently became a subject of widespread discussion among fans and media.

The discourse intensified after Rahman Jago, a prominent socialite and known associate of the singer, shared a video on his X (formerly Twitter) account showing Burna Boy praising Allah alongside other men in a social setting. The post, captioned “Allahu Akbar,” was reposted by Bashir Ahmad, former media aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, who described the singer as “so so happy” and prayed for an easy path in his new faith.

The situation prompted direct inquiry. When a fan asked Ahmad to confirm whether the conversion was official, Ahmad replied that while some of Burna Boy’s close associates indicated he had converted, the singer himself had not yet made a public declaration. Subsequently, Rahman Jago directly addressed the same query, providing the first explicit confirmation from the singer’s inner circle. “He converted. He is now a Muslim,” Jago stated in the comments.

Burna Boy, one of Africa’s most celebrated musical exports and a 2021 Grammy Award winner, has not personally issued a statement regarding the conversion. His earlier podcast comments framed his exploration of Islam as a personal pursuit of knowledge and truth, aligning with a broader narrative of spiritual inquiry. The confirmation by Jago, a longtime confidant, now settles the speculation that arose from those remarks.

The development underscores the personal dimensions of the artist’s life beyond his global music career. As a figure with significant cultural influence in Nigeria and across the diaspora, his religious choice draws public interest, though his private spiritual journey remains distinct from his public artistic persona. Further comment from Burna Boy or his official representatives is awaited to provide additional context or personal reflection on the matter.
