Nigerian international striker Stephen Odey has completed a transfer to Hungarian top-flight club Debreceni VSC, the club confirmed on Tuesday. The 28-year-old forward joins on a free transfer after his contract with Danish Superliga side Randers FC expired last December.
Odey arrives at the Loki with extensive European experience, having previously played in Switzerland, Belgium, and France. He spent four and a half seasons with Randers, making 129 appearances and scoring 28 goals. Prior to his stint in Denmark, he featured for Swiss Cup winners FC Zurich and Belgian champion KRC Genk, where he claimed the Belgian Super Cup. His career also includes a spell with French Ligue 2 club Amiens SC.
Over the course of his career across multiple leagues, Odey has scored 83 goals. His move to Debrecen, a club with a historic record in Hungarian football, provides him with a fresh platform following his departure from Randers. The signing addresses Debrecen’s need for an experienced proven goalscorer to strengthen their attacking options for the upcoming season.
This transfer represents a continuation of Odey’s journeyman career in European football, having previously come through the ranks at Nigerian club MFM. His profile as a free agent with a substantial goal record in several leagues made him a pragmatic acquisition for Debrecen as they prepare for the challenges of the OTP Bank Liga.
