The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), led by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, congratulated All Progressives Congress presidential candidate Bola Tinubu on his “resounding victory during the presidential election and emergence as the President‑elect, Commander‑in‑Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.” In a message dated 2 March, the council thanked Almighty Allah for the victory, describing it as a clear manifestation of divine favor and a sign that Tinubu is the preferred leader for the nation at this time.
The NSCIA noted that Tinubu’s win was not a surprise to the council. “We have followed with keen interest your trajectory in the Nigerian political landscape,” the message read. It praised his track record in public service, decades of hard work, selflessness, sacrifice, unwavering commitment to the Nigerian project, and the strong interpersonal relationships he has built across the country. The statement was signed by Deputy Secretary‑General Prof. Salisu Shehu.
According to the Independent National Electoral Commission, Tinubu polled 8,794,726 votes under the APC, defeating Peoples Democratic Party candidate Atiku Abubakar (6,984,520 votes) and Labour Party candidate Peter Obi (6,101,533 votes). Both Atiku and Obi have rejected the results and taken their challenges to court.
Expressing confidence in Tinubu’s leadership, the NSCIA described him as “a very experienced human and financial resources manager, a hunter of talents, and an enabler of men and women.” It highlighted his unique encouragement of Nigerian youth to serve the country and affirmed that he would assemble an inclusive team of experts to foster unity, peace, and sustainable development.
The council stressed the importance of justice, calling it “the hallmark of leadership and a non‑negotiable requirement of Islam.” It urged Tinubu, upon assuming office, to implement policies that transform the economy, security, social infrastructure, and human‑capital development. As a Muslim in authority, he is reminded that leadership is a trust, and the people will expect honesty, fairness, transparency, discipline, prayerfulness, and righteousness. The NSCIA pledged its support and prayers, wishing that God guide, guard, and grant Tinubu the wisdom and strength to discharge his duties credibly and to showcase Islam through exemplary conduct and performance.
