Kano State Approves N310bn for Infra, Education, Healthcare

Kano State’s Executive Council has approved more than N310 billion for multi-sector projects aimed at accelerating socioeconomic development across Nigeria’s northwestern state. The approvals, concluded during the council’s 38th meeting in Kano, allocate funds for infrastructure, education, and healthcare initiatives, according to a statement from the state’s Commissioner for Information, Ibrahim Waiya.

A significant portion of the funding will support the education sector. The council sanctioned N238 million for the purchase of Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) forms for prospective university candidates. Additional education projects include the rehabilitation of Government Girls Secondary School in Hotoro South and the renovation of multiple schools in Bagwai Local Government Area. Furthermore, funds were allocated for the provisioning of textbooks to students across all 44 local government areas and the construction of a nomadic school in Tasawa village, Dambatta, targeting educational access for pastoralist communities. The council also approved resources for feeding boarding school students and settling outstanding payments for previously supplied eggs and chickens.

In healthcare, the council approved the renovation of the Hasiya Bayero Paediatric Hospital and the procurement of essential medical equipment. Infrastructure projects received substantial backing, including the renovation of the Kano State Fire Service Headquarters and the construction of roads in Ungogo, Nassarawa, and other areas. Environmental projects were also included in the approvals.

A major component of the funding is a N113 billion mass housing scheme, underscoring the state’s focus on addressing residential deficits. The council additionally sanctioned support for seasonal Ramadan feeding programs and various youth empowerment initiatives.

These extensive approvals reflect the Kano State Government’s prioritization of foundational services and capital projects to foster long-term development. The implementation of these projects is expected to impact thousands of residents through improved educational facilities, enhanced healthcare delivery, upgraded infrastructure, and expanded housing opportunities, aligning with broader efforts to stimulate economic growth and improve living standards in the region.
