ADC suspends ward chairman, 2 others over Ireti Kingibe’s purported suspension — Daily Nigerian

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has suspended three executive members from the Wuse Ward for allegedly orchestrating the improper suspension of Senator Ireti Kingibe, who represents the FCT in the Senate.

The decision, announced following a meeting at the party’s FCT secretariat in Abuja, targets ward Chairman Kanayo Chukwu, Amanda Pam, and Omale Suleiman. A member of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), Emmanuel Destiny, stated the initial suspension of Sen. Kingibe violated the ADC’s constitution and due process. He emphasized that the national leadership had received no formal complaint against the senator, making the ward’s action illegitimate.

“The party is supreme to every individual. You cannot wake up and suspend a serving senator without putting your complaints or petition in writing,” Destiny said. He warned that the national wing would take disciplinary action against what he termed “gangsterism” by unrecognised officials.

Supporting this stance, Deputy National Auditor Princess Nneka Nneboh said the leadership could no longer remain silent after appeals for due process were ignored. “Enough is enough,” she added. FCT Secretary John Hyginus criticised administrative lapses and a “gross breach of the party’s constitution,” noting that the ward and area council chairmen had passed a vote of no confidence in the three executives.

The controversy stems from earlier in the week when Wuse ward officials announced Sen. Kingibe’s suspension. They accused her of anti-party activities, insubordination, and withholding funds meant for the party’s campaigns during recent FCT area council elections. However, the national leadership swiftly distanced itself from that decision. National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi described the report as “false and misleading,” urging the public to disregard it.

The motion to suspend the three ward executives was moved by ADC chieftain Danlami Zuru and seconded by Samuel Dimgba. In a letter to the NWC, the ward’s publicity secretary, Samuel Nwigbo, had previously expressed concerns about the party’s readiness for elections with a candidate who allegedly did not actively campaign in her constituency.

The ADC’s intervention underscores a significant internal rift within the party in the nation’s capital. By reinforcing constitutional procedures, the national leadership aims to assert authority and present a united front ahead of future electoral contests, highlighting the importance of internal cohesion and due process in party management.
