ADC Bauchi Reconciles After Court Ruling for 2027 Elections

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Bauchi State has initiated a reconciliation process aimed at uniting its membership, following a recent court judgment that resolved a protracted leadership dispute within the party.

The conflict, which had seen rival factions contesting control of the state party structure, was settled by a High Court ruling that affirmed Hassan Haruna as the legitimate state chairman of the ADC in Bauchi. This legal resolution has paved the way for efforts to restore internal cohesion ahead of upcoming political engagements.

In response to the court’s decision, the state leadership has constituted a reconciliation committee tasked with engaging aggrieved members and fostering unity. Deputy State Publicity Secretary Arsanu Guyaba, in a statement to journalists, characterised the judgment as a definitive turning point. He noted that the ruling provides necessary legal clarity and a foundation for stability, allowing the party to shift focus from internal discord to strategic preparation.

Guyaba confirmed that the current leadership has reached out to dissenting factions, urging them to rejoin the party’s mainstream activities. The objective, he stated, is to collectively reposition the ADC for future electoral contests. The party is now prioritising the strengthening of its grassroots organisational framework and mobilising support with the 2027 general elections in view.

While acknowledging that the faction that lost the court case may still consider further legal avenues, the ADC emphasised its commitment to dialogue and peaceful conflict resolution. Guyaba also praised the national leadership of the ADC for its supportive yet non-interventionist stance, which allowed the state chapter to autonomously settle its internal crisis.

This development comes against the backdrop of recurring intraparty leadership disputes that often weaken opposition parties in Nigeria’s political landscape. The ADC’s ability to resolve its Bauchi State crisis and proceed with reconciliation is seen as a critical step toward building a viable alternative platform.

With reconciliation efforts underway, the party is redirecting its attention to mobilisation at the ward and local government levels. Leadership expressed confidence that a united ADC can present a stronger challenge in the next electoral cycle, moving beyond past divisions to consolidate its presence in Bauchi State and the broader North-East region. The success of this reconciliation will likely determine the ADC’s capacity to mount an effective campaign in the 2027 elections.
