In commemoration of International Women’s Day, Adenike Adeeko—founder of Whiskey Mistress, Donkey Technologies, and the ticketing platform Nairatix—stressed the need for government at all levels to sponsor science programmes for more women. She explained that such support would expose more women to the technology market and enhance their skills.
Adeeko noted that the 2023 International Women’s Day theme, “DigitALL: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality,” would significantly increase women’s participation in the market, creating additional opportunities. She urged women to believe they can pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and especially information technology and communication, emphasizing that these fields are not reserved for men. “Women and girls should have confidence that, with hard work, they can break any barrier,” she said.
The founder also called on women to mentor younger females, guide them, and give back to girls in secondary schools and universities, serving as inspirational role models. Adeeko urged governments to provide more grants and equal opportunities for women in science programmes. She added that women should invest in themselves and pursue their goals despite societal and natural obstacles.
“I encourage women globally to pursue their dreams; do not let gender limit you,” Adeeko advised. “You can have it all. Be ambitious, put in effort, and earn opportunities on merit. If you are mentally and physically stable, you can achieve your dreams.”
