Bauchi Governor Bala Mohammed Affirms PDP Loyalty Amid APC Rumors

Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has publicly reaffirmed his loyalty to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), directly countering persistent rumours of a potential defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The governor made the declaration following Eid prayers in Bauchi, using the occasion to address the state’s political climate.

Speaking to journalists, Governor Mohammed categorically dismissed reports of his planned party switch as “baseless and unfounded.” He stated that his political actions are solely guided by the interests and wishes of the people of Bauchi State, adding that leadership must reflect the collective will of citizens, not personal ambition or external pressure.

While acknowledging internal challenges within the PDP, Governor Mohammed expressed confidence that these are temporary and resolvable through dialogue and strategic planning by party leaders ahead of the 2027 general elections. He stressed that politics should be driven by vision, integrity, and service, not a desperate quest for power. He noted that Bauchi’s electorate is politically aware and not easily swayed by rumours or propaganda.

The governor urged politicians to promote unity and peaceful competition, avoiding divisive practices that could inflame tensions. “This is a state with a rich democratic tradition. We must avoid politics of hostility,” he said.

On governance, Governor Mohammed reiterated his administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and inclusive leadership. He assured that opposition voices operate freely without intimidation and that his government supports emerging leaders and youth political participation. He acknowledged existing security and development challenges but affirmed his administration’s dedication to addressing them through prudent resource management. He called on residents to support security agencies and remain vigilant, emphasizing that peace is essential for progress.

Governor Mohammed’s strong reaffirmation of his PDP membership comes amid ongoing national political realignments. His stance underscores a commitment to internal party rebuilding efforts in Bauchi State as the nation looks toward the 2027 elections, signalling his intention to remain a key figure within the opposition party.
