The European Union has opened a formal investigation into Snapchat to assess whether the platform violates the bloc’s Digital Services Act (DSA) by failing to adequately protect child users. The probe, announced by the European Commission on Thursday, focuses on the platform’s systems for preventing minors from accessing the app and shielding them from harmful content and contacts.
Snapchat, which reports approximately 97 million monthly active users in the EU, is particularly popular with teenagers and young adults.
