Kano Assembly withdraws impeachment notice after deputy governor’s resignation — Daily Nigerian

The Kano State House of Assembly has officially withdrawn its impeachment notice against former Deputy Governor Aminu Abdulsalam, following his voluntary resignation.

The decision was taken during a plenary session presided over by Speaker Jibril Isma’il on Tuesday in Kano. Majority Leader Lawan Hussaini (Dala-APC) moved the motion to withdraw all charges against Abdulsalam, stating that the matter had been laid to rest.

Speaking to journalists after the session, Hussaini explained that the Assembly’s role was limited to removing officials found guilty of misconduct. “Since he has voluntarily resigned, how can we continue? We are not the EFCC or ICPC; our mandate has been fulfilled,” he said.

The impeachment notice, issued in accordance with Section 188 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), followed allegations of gross misconduct, abuse of office, and breach of public trust during Abdulsalam’s tenure as Commissioner for Local Government Affairs from 2023 to 2024. The proceedings were initiated on March 5, 2026.

With Abdulsalam’s resignation, the Assembly has concluded its involvement in the case, bringing an end to the impeachment process.
