Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has disclosed that he personally monitors media coverage, particularly statements made by individuals he describes as his “enemies.”
Speaking to journalists in Abuja, Wike explained that he follows prime-time news across leading Nigerian television stations, including Africa Independent Television (AIT), TVC News, and Channels Television. He emphasized that he prefers to stay directly informed rather than rely on aides or third parties for updates on public discourse surrounding him.
The minister added that his media monitoring often extends late into the night, with him sometimes revisiting broadcasts around midnight to ensure he is fully up to date before going to bed.
“I watch news all the time—AIT News, I will watch, TVC News, Channels, I watch all of them,” Wike said. “I don’t wait for anyone to come and tell me what my enemies are saying about me; I hear it by myself. So you can see that I know the time—even by 12 I still come back to watch everything, I make sure that I watch before I go and sleep.”
Wike’s remarks highlight his hands-on approach to media engagement and his determination to stay informed about public narratives, particularly those he perceives as critical.
