Nigerian Army Recovers Bodies of Two Police Officers After Ambush Repelled

In a swift security operation, troops of the Nigerian Army have recovered the bodies of two police personnel following an ambush along a key transit route connecting Katsina and Kano States.

According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. on April 8, when soldiers from the 17 Brigade responded to intelligence reports of armed men setting up a roadblock along the Yargajam–Sabon Garin–Garu corridor, a border route between the two states.

Upon arrival, the troops fired warning shots, forcing the attackers to flee towards Kankia Local Government Area in Katsina State. “On sighting the troops, the terrorists abandoned the roadblock and retreated into nearby areas,” a security source said.

A follow-up search of the scene led to the discovery of the bodies of two Nigeria Police Force personnel, believed to have been killed by the fleeing assailants. The remains were later evacuated and handed over to the Divisional Police Officer in Gidan Mutum Daya, Katsina State.

Security agencies have intensified efforts to track down the fleeing suspects, with increased patrols along the route to deter further attacks. The Yargajam–Sabon Garin–Garu corridor has been plagued by repeated security challenges, prompting authorities to maintain joint military and police operations to safeguard travelers and local residents.

The incident highlights the ongoing security threats along Nigeria’s northern border routes and the continued need for coordinated military and law enforcement responses to protect civilian lives and maintain stability in the region.
