Omokri Predicts Tinubu’s 2027 Victory as Formality

Nigeria’s ambassador to Mexico, Reno Omokri, has predicted a decisive victory for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, describing the contest as “more or less a formality” if the President remains in good health.

Omokri’s comments came in response to the large crowds that gathered in Bayelsa State to welcome Tinubu during his visit on Friday. In a post on social media platform X, the diplomat noted that the turnout was unprecedented since the state’s creation in 1996, even comparing it to crowds seen during the tenure of former President Goodluck Jonathan, a native of Bayelsa.

“I have been to Bayelsa multiple times and used to think this was a tiny state in terms of landmass and population. Boy, was I wrong!” Omokri wrote. “Yesterday proved that convincingly with regard to the population. Definitely, this is a state that knows on what side its bread is buttered.”

The ambassador suggested that the enthusiastic reception in Bayelsa reflects broader national support for Tinubu’s administration. “And as it is in the South-South, so will it be throughout the federation,” he stated, adding that this widespread backing would ensure Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.

Bayelsa State, located in Nigeria’s oil-rich Niger Delta region, was carved out of Rivers State in 1996. The state has historically been a stronghold for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), making the warm reception for Tinubu—a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)—particularly noteworthy.

President Tinubu’s visit to Bayelsa was part of his administration’s ongoing efforts to engage with stakeholders across the country’s six geopolitical zones. The visit included meetings with state officials and traditional rulers, as well as the commissioning of development projects.

Political analysts note that while large crowds at political events can indicate popular support, they are not always reliable predictors of election outcomes. Factors such as economic conditions, policy performance, and opposition strength typically play more decisive roles in determining electoral success.

As Nigeria approaches the next presidential election cycle, observers will be watching closely to see whether the apparent enthusiasm witnessed in Bayelsa translates into sustained national support for Tinubu’s potential re-election bid.
