GAFDAN Denies Fulani Involvement in Bokkos Attack, Calls for Investigation

Plateau State: GAFDAN Denies Fulani Involvement in Mbwelle Attack

The Gan Allah Fulani Development Association (GAFDAN) in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State has firmly denied allegations linking Fulani herdsmen to the deadly attack on Mbwelle village in Kwatas district, where more than 20 people were killed, including eight members of one family.

In a statement issued on Saturday by Saleh Adamu, the Bokkos Chairman of GAFDAN, the group rejected claims that its members were responsible for the violence. Adamu said the association had consistently educated its members on peaceful coexistence with host communities and urged them to avoid involvement in conflicts, regardless of provocation.

The attack has sparked widespread accusations and speculation, with some alleging the involvement of a Fulani militia. However, GAFDAN maintains there is no evidence to support these claims.

Adamu expressed surprise at the incident, noting that the community had been enjoying relative peace in recent times. “I was surprised to hear about the attack, especially as the community had been enjoying relative peace. There had been no incidents to justify this,” he stated.

He questioned the basis for accusations against Fulani people, emphasizing the lack of proof linking them to the attackers. “I wonder how they quickly arrived at such a conclusion even when there is no evidence to back it up,” Adamu said.

The GAFDAN chairman categorically denied any involvement by his members, stating, “I will categorically say here that our people are not responsible for the attack in Mbwelle and in other parts of Plateau State.”

Adamu also highlighted ongoing peace efforts, noting that the association had been holding meetings aimed at fostering harmony. “We have been holding meetings, and peace was gradually returning. This development is both unfortunate and condemnable,” he added.

While condemning the attack as unwarranted, Adamu called on security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation and bring the perpetrators to justice. “We do not yet know those responsible. We urge security agencies to investigate and bring the perpetrators to justice,” he insisted.

The incident has heightened tensions in the region, with calls for calm and a focus on identifying the true culprits behind the violence.
