Sen. Ita Enang Urges Journalists to Study Electoral Act Ahead of 2027 Elections

Ahead of the 2027 General Elections, Nigeria’s Ambassador-designate to South Africa, Senator Ita Enang, has urged journalists across the country to familiarize themselves with the provisions of the Electoral Act to ensure their reporting aligns with the law.

Enang made the call during the unveiling of the Critique Magazine of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Akwa Ibom State Council. He emphasized that every citizen should have free access to the courts and stated that he would not hesitate to seek legal redress if he believed the Electoral Act had been breached.

The event, themed “From Insight To Action: The Role Of The Media In Shaping The Arise Agenda Legacy,” also featured remarks from other dignitaries. Enang praised Akwa Ibom journalists for their role in building democracy and shaping the legacy of Governor Umo Eno’s administration through balanced and development-focused reporting.

In his keynote address, Dr. Emmanuel Abraham, Chairman of TopFaith University, urged journalists to align their coverage with the state government’s development-driven vision. He called for a philosophical and intentional approach to the ARISE Agenda, emphasizing its potential to serve as a long-term roadmap for the state’s progress beyond the current administration.

Aniekeme Finbarr, Media Manager of Sumedha Energy Limited and Ibom Developers, described the media as partners in progress, highlighting their critical role in advancing development narratives.

Comrade Bassey Anthony, State Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel, expressed gratitude to attendees, noting that their presence reflected the high regard for the media’s contribution to democracy and governance in Akwa Ibom State.

The call for media adherence to the Electoral Act comes as Nigeria prepares for the 2027 elections, underscoring the importance of accurate, law-abiding journalism in shaping public understanding and trust in the electoral process.
