A former governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Niger State, Umar Nasko, defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Thursday. Nasko, who contested the PDP governorship primaries in 2015 and 2019 and lost to incumbent Governor Abubakar Bello, announced his switch in Minna. He said he decided to join the APC after being approached by the party’s governorship candidate, Umar Bago, who invited him to work together for the state’s growth and development.
“My decamping to the APC is out of conviction after I was approached by the progressives led by the APC governorship candidate, Umar Bago,” Nasko explained. He described the move as a turning point for Niger State and pledged to work maximally to ensure the APC’s success in the forthcoming elections. “This is a turning point for the progressives in Niger State, and I promise to work diligently to ensure that the APC is victorious at the polls on 18 March,” he said.
Nasko called on his supporters to join the APC’s cause, urging them to work assiduously for the party’s victory on 18 March 2023. “I therefore call on all my supporters and admirers across the state to join the fold and ensure the success and victory of the APC,” he urged.
Umar Bago, who received Nasko into the party, described him as an asset. “We share the same vision for the development of Niger State, and surely Nasko will be part of my government if elected. Nasko is a courageous, determined young man, very intelligent, with a wealth of experience and the capacity to help move Niger State forward,” Bago said.
