Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has appealed to state civil servants to vote for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidates in the upcoming election, emphasizing the need to sustain his administration’s development agenda. Speaking at a town‑hall meeting with workers at the International Conference Centre in Umuahia on Thursday, Ikpeazu highlighted the policies and programmes his government has introduced to improve workers’ welfare.
He urged civil servants to vote for continuity on March 18, warning that “if you gamble with your future, you also put your job on the line.” The governor reminded them of the consequences of an indiscreet vote and announced that the leave allowance for civil servants would be paid within the next seven days. He also pledged command promotions for all staff, noting that implementation would be smoother if they support the PDP governorship candidate, Chief Okey Ahiwe, who he said will prioritize workers’ welfare if elected.
Ikpeazu thanked God for the cordial relationship between the government and civil servants and commended them for their support, which he said has been pivotal to the infrastructure development achieved during his tenure. He urged voters to choose candidates with a proven track record of stewardship rather than individuals who might jeopardize their future.
In response, PDP governorship aspirant Okey Ahiwe assured the public that, if elected, he would fully implement the command promotions announced by the governor. Ahiwe pledged to serve the state diligently and to develop programmes that boost human‑capital development and increase productivity, according to NAN.
