Three 40‑foot containers fell in different parts of Lagos State on Friday. The first incident occurred at about 6:55 a.m. on the Ojuelegba bridge near the stadium. A container slipped off a trailer, blocking the entire main carriageway. The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) diverted traffic to the service lanes and deployed police and evacuation crews to the scene.
The second accident happened around 7 a.m. near the General Hospital under the Ikeja Underbridge. A container‑laden truck toppled, and the container had to be off‑loaded before recovery could begin. LASTMA personnel were on the ground managing traffic and coordinating the removal operation.
Later that afternoon, another 40‑foot container fell at Demurin junction in the Mile 12 area of Ikorodu road. The service lane was closed, but recovery efforts were already underway and no casualties were reported.
These incidents echo previous accidents in Lagos. In February, two containers fell off a trailer on the Mile 12 bridge outbound Ikorodu, halting traffic. In January 2023, two containers fell from the Ojuelegba bridge, one of which crushed a commercial bus, killing its occupants.
